For many years addiction treatment was entirely focused on the addiction. Until, in the 80’s, something called dual diagnosis treatment was developed.
What therapists and clinicians finally realized was that, in many cases, the addiction wasn’t the issue, it was a symptom of another disorder and people were using alcohol or drugs essentially to deal with that disorder – which is often called self-medicating.
This was a huge leap forward in the treatment of addiction and led to many other breakthroughs in how addiction was thought of and in developing therapies for it.
Also Known as Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
Whether it’s called dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorders treatment it means the same thing.
What it’s led to is a much more in depth psychological assessment, as well as a medical assessment, to make sure of exactly what kind of treatment and care you need. Then, we’ll talk about treatment options with you and design a program specifically to help you, including the therapies that will be most effective in your case. Such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT) and Eye movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), for example. All of which have only recently been introduced into addiction treatment.
But we’ll also look at equine therapy and physical therapy, among others, to make sure that you’re getting what you need for your mind, body and spirit. Of course, you’ll also get the individual and groups sessions as a part of your total program.
ItTakes More than Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Addiction, especially in context of a dual diagnosis treatment program, requires some other things in order to make the program work for you.
We believe that the more comfortable you are the more likely you are to stick with the program. Which is why our medical doctor can help you with medications to ease some of the symptoms of detox and withdrawal, such as anxiety, sleeplessness and nausea, for example. But we also have an outstanding support staff that help make sure you’re comfortable and well cared for. Our gourmet chef prepares meals and snacks designed not only to be delicious but also to help nourish and restore brains and bodies ravaged by addiction.
Most of our rooms are single occupancy with double beds and flat screen TVs. There’s also a hot tub and swimming pool outside, along with the warm California sunshine to lay in. Every detail has been considered. So, call us now and let’s talk about how we can help you.
